Le châtiment que Sion a subi est comparé à celui du déluge. Dieu, par une alliance formelle avec Noé, s'était engagé à ne plus envoyer de déluge (Genèse 9.11-16). De même ici, la promesse d'une miséricorde éternelle est confirmée par un serment divin (voir la note 45.23). La seconde ruine de Jérusalem et la dispersion actuelle d'Israël ne sont point en contradiction avec cette promesse ; car, comme nous l'avons vu, c'est à l'Israël selon l'Esprit, composé des Juifs croyants et des païens convertis, qu'est assurée la gloire dont Esaïe trace le tableau dans ce chapitre. C'est là la Sion nouvelle dont aucun divorce n'interrompra plus l'alliance avec Jéhova.
