Le prophète fait l'application à Israël de ce qui vient d'être dit de la pitié de Dieu pour la faiblesse humaine en général.

La cupidité, le seul vice qu'il lui reproche, tient lieu ici de tous les autres : c'est la convoitise. comme principe du péché sous toutes ses formes ; l'opposé de la contrition qui ne réclame rien parce qu'elle sent n'avoir point de droits.
