Esdras 8.21

Et là, près du fleuve Ahava, je publiai un jeûne, pour nous humilier devant notre Dieu, pour lui demander le vrai chemin, pour nous et pour nos enfants, et pour tout notre avoir.
Esdras obtint des Lévites, qu'ils l'accompagnent ; mais à quoi cette obéissance pouvait-elle être utile, si Dieu n'était pas avec ces hommes ? Ceux qui cherchent Dieu, sont en sûreté, à l'ombre de Ses ailes, même lors des plus grands dangers ; mais ceux qui L'abandonnent, courent des risques en permanence.

À chaque nouvelle étape de notre vie, nous devrions veiller à ne rien laisser filtrer de notre culpabilité passée, de tout ce qui concerne nos anciens péchés. Lors de chaque péril traversé, soyons en paix avec Dieu, et rien ne pourra alors réellement nous nuire. Dans toutes les affaires qui nous concernent, ainsi que notre famille et nos biens, nous devons, en toute sagesse, remettre par la prière, toutes choses à Dieu, en Lui laissant le soin de diriger les évènements. Parfois, nous devrions être à même de refuser des avantages facilement accessibles, de peur de faire trébucher certaines personnes de notre entourage, et de voir ainsi notre Dieu déshonoré.

Demandons à Dieu Sa sagesse, afin de pouvoir discerner quelle voie prendre, même dans les affaires tout à fait honnêtes. Nous ne serons jamais perdants à être zélés, à souffrir, voire à renoncer à certains projets, dans l'intérêt du Seigneur. Les prières des enfants d'Israël, quant au chemin qu'ils devaient suivre, furent exaucées. Ne cherchez jamais Dieu, si ce n'est pas de tout votre cœur, sinon vous Le chercherez en vain. En période de difficulté et lors du danger, sachons réserver du temps pour la prière, qu'elle soit faite en secret ou en commun ; c'est la meilleure méthode pour connaître le soulagement !

World English Bible Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek of him a straight way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.
