It is mine."3 Moses said to the people, "Remember this day, in which you came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand Yahweh brought you out from this place. No leavened bread shall be eaten.4 This day you go out in the month Abib.5 It shall be, when Yahweh shall bring you into the land of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, which he swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall keep this service in this month.6 Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and in the seventh day shall be a feast to Yahweh.7 Unleavened bread shall be eaten throughout the seven days; and no leavened bread shall be seen with you, neither shall yeast be seen with you, in all your borders.8 You shall tell your son in that day, saying, 'It is because of that which Yahweh did for me when I came out of Egypt.'9 It shall be for a sign to you on your hand, and for a memorial between your eyes, that the law of Yahweh may be in your mouth; for with a strong hand Yahweh has brought you out of Egypt.10 You shall therefore keep this ordinance in its season from year to year.11 "It shall be, when Yahweh shall bring you into the land of the Canaanite, as he swore to you and to your fathers, and shall give it you,12 that you shall set apart to Yahweh all that opens the womb, and every firstborn which you have that comes from an animal. 17 It happened, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God didn't lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, "Lest perhaps the people change their minds when they see war, and they return to Egypt";18 but God led the people around by the way of the wilderness by the Red Sea ; and the children of Israel went up armed out of the land of Egypt.19 Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for he had made the children of Israel swear, saying, "God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones away from here with you."20 They took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness.21 Yahweh went before them by day in a pillar of cloud, to lead them on their way, and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light, that they might go by day and by night:22 the pillar of cloud by day, and the pillar of fire by night, didn't depart from before the people. -

On ne mangera point de pain levé.4 Vous sortez aujourd'hui, dans le mois des épis.5 Quand l'Éternel t'aura fait entrer dans le pays des Cananéens, des Héthiens, des Amoréens, des Héviens et des Jébusiens, qu'il a juré à tes pères de te donner, pays où coulent le lait et le miel, tu rendras ce culte à l'Éternel dans ce même mois.6 Pendant sept jours, tu mangeras des pains sans levain ; et le septième jour, il y aura une fête en l'honneur de l'Éternel.7 On mangera des pains sans levain pendant les sept jours ; on ne verra point chez toi de pain levé, et l'on ne verra point chez toi de levain, dans toute l'étendue de ton pays.8 Tu diras alors à ton fils : C'est en mémoire de ce que l'Éternel a fait pour moi, lorsque je suis sorti d'Égypte.9 Ce sera pour toi comme un signe sur ta main et comme un souvenir entre tes yeux, afin que la loi de l'Éternel soit dans ta bouche ; car c'est par sa main puissante que l'Éternel t'a fait sortir d'Égypte.10 Tu observeras cette ordonnance au temps fixé d'année en année.11 Quand l'Éternel t'aura fait entrer dans le pays des Cananéens, comme il l'a juré à toi et à tes pères, et qu'il te l'aura donné,12 tu consacreras à l'Éternel tout premier-né, même tout premier-né des animaux que tu auras : les mâles appartiennent à l'Éternel.13 Tu rachèteras avec un agneau tout premier-né de l'âne ; et, si tu ne le rachètes pas, tu lui briseras la nuque. Tu rachèteras aussi tout premier-né de l'homme parmi tes fils.14 Et lorsque ton fils te demandera un jour : Que signifie cela ? tu lui répondras : Par sa main puissante, l'Éternel nous a fait sortir d'Égypte, de la maison de servitude ;15 et, comme Pharaon s'obstinait à ne point nous laisser aller, l'Éternel fit mourir tous les premiers-nés dans le pays d'Égypte, depuis les premiers-nés des hommes jusqu'aux premiers-nés des animaux. Voilà pourquoi j'offre en sacrifice à l'Éternel tout premier-né des mâles, et je rachète tout premier-né de mes fils.16 Ce sera comme un signe sur ta main et comme des fronteaux entre tes yeux ; car c'est par sa main puissante que l'Éternel nous a fait sortir d'Égypte.Dieu conduit la marche de son peuple
17 Lorsque Pharaon laissa aller le peuple, Dieu ne le conduisit point par le chemin du pays des Philistins, quoique le plus proche ; car Dieu dit : Le peuple pourrait se repentir en voyant la guerre, et retourner en Égypte.18 Mais Dieu fit faire au peuple un détour par le chemin du désert, vers la mer Rouge. Les enfants d'Israël montèrent en armes hors du pays d'Égypte.19 Moïse prit avec lui les os de Joseph ; car Joseph avait fait jurer les fils d'Israël, en disant : Dieu vous visitera, et vous ferez remonter avec vous mes os loin d'ici.20 Ils partirent de Succoth, et ils campèrent à Étham, à l'extrémité du désert.21 L'Éternel allait devant eux, le jour dans une colonne de nuée pour les guider dans leur chemin, et la nuit dans une colonne de feu pour les éclairer, afin qu'ils marchassent jour et nuit.22 La colonne de nuée ne se retirait point de devant le peuple pendant le jour, ni la colonne de feu pendant la nuit. -

17 à 22 De Succoth à Etham
La route ordinaire des caravanes pour le pays de Canaan allait au Nord-Est en se rapprochant de la côte de la Méditerranée. Mais par ce chemin, les Israélites seraient arrivés en douze à quinze jours à la frontière méridionale de Canaan, et là, ils se seraient trouvés en face du peuple belliqueux des Philistins et n'auraient pu passer sans se mettre en guerre avec lui.
Nourri dans la servitude, faible encore dans la foi, Israël n'était pas préparé à une telle rencontre. D'ailleurs, il résulte de Genèse 15.19-21 et d'Exode 3.8 que les Philistins n'étaient pas au nombre des peuples qui devaient être dépossédés à ce moment-là. Dieu avait donc décidé de faire passer Israël par une autre route, celle qu'il avait indiquée dès l'abord à Moïse, quand à Sinaï il lui avait donné pour signe (3.12) le culte que le peuple lui rendrait un jour au pied de cette montagne même.
Ce fut cette marche étrange, en sens opposé au but, qui acheva d'aveugler Pharaon, une fois remis de son premier mouvement de terreur.
Que le peuple se repente : 14.10-12 montre bien que cette crainte était fondée sur la connaissance que Dieu avait des dispositions du peuple.
Les chemins divins sont des chemins de droiture, malgré leurs apparences, qui parfois nous déroutent. Si nous pensons que Dieu ne conduit pas Son peuple par le plus court chemin, soyons persuadés qu'Il le conduit au mieux, ce qui se vérifie à la fin du voyage. Les Philistins étaient des ennemis puissants ; il était nécessaire que les Israélites fussent préparés, pour faire la guerre en Canaan : ils devaient traverser les difficultés de la route dans le désert. Dieu envoie des épreuves à Son peuple, qui sont toujours proportionnelles à sa force, 1Corinthiens 10:13. Les Israélites partirent en bon ordre, par groupes de cinq ; ils étaient militairement bien rangés, ce qui leur donnait un certain potentiel. Ils prirent avec eux les os de Joseph. C'était un encouragement pour leur foi et leur espérance : cela signifiait bien que Dieu devait, par leur intermédiaire, conduire ces os en Canaan, au travers du désert.
