Fils d'homme. Cette appellation, extrêmement fréquente chez Ezéchiel (80 fois) et qui ne se retrouve ailleurs qu'une seule fois (Daniel 8.17), fait ressortir le contraste entre la faiblesse totale et la toute puissance du Dieu qui lui parle, et qui veut se servir de lui comme agent ; elle lui rappelle que, s'il ne peut rien par lui-même, il sera puissant néanmoins par Jéhova pour accomplir l'œuvre qui lui est confiée. Il devient ainsi l'exemple vivant de la puissance que Dieu se prépare à déployer en faveur de son peuple abaissé et humilié.

Et je te parlerai. C'était en vue de l'appel du prophète que Dieu lui était apparu (chapitre 1). Avant d'entendre cet appel, il doit être rappelé à lui-même par l'action intérieure de la force divine.

L’Éternel donne Ses directives au prophète. (Ezéchiel 2:1-5)
Ézéchiel est encouragé à être résolu et fidèle à sa tâche, tout en restant dévoué à Dieu. (Ezéchiel 2:6-10)

De peur qu'Ézéchiel ne s’enorgueillisse, par l’abondance des révélations que lui fit l’Éternel, ce Dernier lui rappelle qu'il reste toujours « un fils de l'homme », une créature vulnérable et mortelle.

Christ étant également et habituellement appelé le « Fils de l'homme », c'était pour le prophète, une distinction honorable. L’attitude d'Ézéchiel révélait sa révérence envers Dieu, mais par sa position privilégiée, compte tenu des révélations qu’il reçut, il se devait de manifester le plus grand zèle dans l’exercice de son ministère.

Dieu nous parle toujours, dès que nous nous sommes disposés à accomplir ce qu'Il nous commande. Comme Ézéchiel n’était pas doté d’une force particulière, l'Esprit divin entra en lui. Dieu éprouve du plaisir à œuvrer en nous, quand nous devons accomplir Ses tâches. Le Saint-Esprit nous dresse alors sur nos pieds, en nous incitant à accomplir notre devoir. Ainsi, quand le Seigneur invite le pécheur à se réveiller spirituellement, à s'occuper des problèmes et des soucis de son âme, l'Esprit de vie et la Grâce accompagnent ce réveil.

Ézéchiel est envoyé vers les enfants d’Israël, étant chargé de leur transmettre un message. Beaucoup d’entre eux ont dû traiter cet avertissement avec un certain mépris, bien qu’ils aient pu constater qu'un prophète leur avait été envoyé par le ciel.

Dieu sera finalement glorifié, et Sa Parole honorée : Son message transmettra bien le « chemin » qui mène à la vie, ou celui qui conduit à la mort.
