Ohola signifie : sa tente, à elle ; Oholiba : ma tente en elle. Ces deux noms rappellent ce contraste : que le peuple des dix tribus, après s'être séparé du sanctuaire de Jérusalem, s'était élevé un sanctuaire à lui, celui de Béthel, dont il est si souvent parlé dans Amos et dans Osée, et où l'on adorait Dieu sous l'image égyptienne du veau d'or ; tandis que le peuple de Juda continuait à adorer l'Eternel dans son sanctuaire, à Jérusalem.
La plus grande, non l'aînée, comme quelques-uns traduisent ; comparez 16.46. Le royaume du nord, comprenant dix tribus, était plus grand que celui de Juda.
