Lot avec lui. Lot l'avait accompagné dès le commencement (12.5), sans que cela soit indiqué dans chaque cas spécial. Sa présence est rappelée ici en vue de l'histoire qui va suivre.

Abram revient d'Égypte avec de grandes richesses. (Genèse 13:1-4)

Abram était très riche : il était très puissant, surtout en tant qu'Hébreux ; les riches traînent souvent des fardeaux qui sont collés à eux, tel l'argile, Hab 2:6.

Quand on devient riche, on devient sujet à la crainte, à la tentation, aux abus, aux remords lors des pertes et enfin, au bout du compte, à la fatalité de tout abandonner à la fin de sa vie. Dieu, toutefois, dans Sa providence, permet à des hommes bons de devenir riches, et dans le cas d'Abram il avait l'aisance sans en supporter les inconvénients, Proverbes 10:22.

Bien qu'il soit difficile pour un riche, d'entrer dans le royaume des cieux, cela se produit quelquefois, Marc 10:23,24. La prospérité, si elle est bien gérée peut être un ornement à la piété et une opportunité à la pratique abondante du bien.

Abram partit pour Béthel. Il n'avait plus son autel, il ne pouvait donc plus offrir de sacrifices ; mais il implora le Nom de l'Éternel. Un homme de Dieu sans prière est comme un homme vivant sans souffle.
