Gad

Sur six mots dont cette phrase est composée dans le texte hébreu, trois présentent une assonance avec le nom de Gad. Il est mis particulièrement en relation avec le verbe goud, attaquer, presser : Gad est pressé par une troupe ennemie, mais lui-même la presse à son tour et la met en fuite. Gad, en effet, montra sa vaillance dans ses luttes avec les bédouins du désert, qui menaçaient son territoire situé à l'est du Jourdain. Comparez 1Chroniques 5.18 ; 12.8-15

En ce qui concerne Gad, Jacob fait référence à son nom, qui signifie « une troupe », ce qui préfigure le caractère de cette tribu. La cause de Dieu et de Son peuple, qui semble pendant un certain temps décliner, sera finalement victorieuse.

Cela représente le conflit du chrétien. La grâce divine, présente dans l'âme, est souvent contrecarrée à cause des conflits ; les armes de la corruption sont souvent accablantes, mais la cause de Dieu et la grâce finiront par avoir le dessus, quel que puisse être l'adversaire, Romains 8:37.

Aser devrait être une tribu riche : elle a hérité de la contrée qui longe le Carmel, de renommée proverbialement fructueuse.

Nephtali, est une biche en liberté. Nous pouvons considérer cette situation comme une véritable description de cette tribu : elle est vraiment différente du bœuf et de l'âne, laborieux, désirant eux-mêmes jouir d'une certaine liberté ; mais Nephtali est une tribu active, qui se fait remarquer davantage par la rapidité d'exécution de ses tâches, que par la persévérance dans son travail. Elle implore la pitié, avec des mots persuasifs.

Que les différents caractères ou dons acquis, ne nous empêchent pas d'aspirer à d'autres, meilleurs !

      29 Moses said to them, "If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over the Jordan, every man who is armed to battle, before Yahweh, and the land shall be subdued before you; then you shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession:
      30 but if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan."
      31 The children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, "As Yahweh has said to your servants, so will we do.
      32 We will pass over armed before Yahweh into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us beyond the Jordan."
      33 Moses gave to them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, according to its cities and borders, even the cities of the surrounding land.
      34 The children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,
      35 and Atrothshophan, and Jazer, and Jogbehah,
      36 and Beth Nimrah, and Beth Haran: fortified cities, and folds for sheep.
      37 The children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kiriathaim,
