Jean 17.10

Cette pensée que le Père lui a donné ses disciples, qui sont ainsi au Père aussi bien qu'à lui, (verset 9) conduit Jésus à une affirmation plus générale qui constitue un nouvel argument pour que sa prière en faveur des siens soit exaucée.

Tous les trésors de puissance et d'amour, de grâce et de vérité qui sont à Dieu sont aussi au Sauveur ; qu'y a-t-il donc qu'il ne puisse obtenir pour les siens ? Ces paroles proclament l'unité absolue et essentielle du Père et du Fils. (Comparer Jean 10.28-30)

"Ce serait peu de chose, s'il disait simplement : Tout ce qui est à moi est à toi ; car cela, chacun peut le dire, mais qu'il affirme l'inverse et dise : Tout ce qui est à toi est à moi, c'est ce qu'aucune créature ne peut prétendre devant Dieu." Luther.

- Les disciples sont dignes des grâces demandées pour eux, non seulement parce qu'ils sont au Sauveur comme ils sont à Dieu mais parce que le Sauveur a été et est glorifié en eux (verbe au parfait). Il est glorifié déjà en ce qu'ils ont cru en lui et l'ont aimé (de là ce mot en eux) ; et il le sera dans le monde par leur témoignage et par toute leur vie.
