World English Bible Jesus therefore said to Peter, "Put the sword into its sheath. The cup which the Father has given me, shall I not surely drink it?"

Donc, à la vue du danger que le faux zèle de Pierre allait faire courir à sa cause, Jésus l'arrête et le désapprouve.

Que de maux épargnés à l'Eglise et à l'humanité si l'on n'avait pas si souvent oublié ou méprisé ce saint enseignement !

Après avoir ainsi réprouvé l'emploi des armes charnelles dans son règne, Jésus accepte humblement toute la volonté de Dieu, la coupe qu'il lui a donnée.

Cette image douloureuse de ses souffrances et de sa mort, la coupe, est certainement ici un écho de la prière de Jésus en Gethsémané. (Comparer Matthieu 26.39,46, note.)
