Il ne faut pas traduire, avec quelques versions : avait été invité, puisque Jésus était depuis assez longtemps absent de la Galilée ; il fut invité à son arrivée.

Mais ce qu'il y a de plus important à remarquer, c'est qu'il accepte cette invitation et consent à prendre part a une fête de famille. Il honore ainsi le mariage que Dieu a institué.

"Il saura, dans l'humanité, reprendre tout ce qui est à lui, respecter tout ce qui est légitime. Sa présence sanctifie toutes les relations, tous les sentiments et toutes les joies, rien d'humain ne lui est étranger." Astié.

C'est même dans ce sanctuaire de la famille qu'il fera son premier miracle et manifestera sa gloire. (verset 11)
