World English Bible First I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double, because they have polluted my land with the carcasses of their detestable things, and have filled my inheritance with their abominations.

Tout d'abord. Nous pensons, avec la plupart des commentateurs, que les mots hébreux doivent être pris adverbialement et rapportés au verset 15, dans ce sens : avant que s'accomplisse la promesse contenue dans la menace de ce verset.

Au double : allusion à la loi Exode 22.4-9 (Job 42.10) ; comparez la note Esaïe 40.2.

Les cadavres. Les faux dieux, appelés d'ordinaire des vanités, sont comparés ici à des cadavres qui souillent par leur contact.
