The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth that were under his dominion, and all the peoples, were fighting against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of it, saying:

1 à 7 Cette prédiction se rattache à ce qui précède plutôt qu'à ce qui suit.

La parole qui fut... C'est ici le texte même de la prophétie mentionnée 32.3-5 ; il est ajouté comme annexe aux deux chapitres précédents.

Toute son armée... Par ces expressions accumulées, le prophète veut exprimer l'idée que tout l'univers civilisé était rassemblé contre la capitale du petit royaume de Juda.

Ses villes : les villes de Jérusalem, la métropole du pays.

La mort de Sédécias, à Babylone, est annoncée. (Jérémie 34:1-7)
Les Juifs sont réprimandés, pour avoir obligé leurs pauvres frères à rester en esclavage. (Jérémie 34:8-22)

L’Éternel, par la voix de Jérémie, annonce à Sédécias que sa ville sera prise, et qu'il y mourra en paix, bien qu’il soit en captivité.

Il est préférable de vivre et de mourir dans une prison, avec un cœur repentant, que de vivre et mourir en tant qu’impie, dans un palais !

      Jérémie 34

      7 when the king of Babylon's army was fighting against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish and against Azekah; for these alone remained of the cities of Judah as fortified cities.
