Jérémie est jeté dans un cachot, dont il est ensuite délivré par un Éthiopien. (Jérémie 38:1-13)
Il conseille au roi de se rendre aux Chaldéens. (Jérémie 38:14-28)

Jérémie continua à prêcher ouvertement. Les princes redoublèrent alors de méchanceté envers lui.

Il est fréquent de voir des impies considérer les serviteurs de Dieu, comme leurs ennemis, ce qui révèle bien la dureté de ces pécheurs. Ainsi, Jérémie fut jeté dans un cachot. De nombreux et fidèles « témoins » de Dieu ont été ainsi mis en prison, hélas, dans le plus grand secret.

Ébed-Mélec était d’origine éthiopienne ; malgré cela, il parla au roi en toute intégrité, lui rapportant le mal commis par ces hommes, envers Jérémie.

Remarquez comment Dieu peut susciter aux Siens des « amis », capables de les délivrer éventuellement de la détresse ! Des ordres furent donnés par Ébed-Mélec, pour sortir le prophète de cette fosse. Que ceci puisse nous encourager à être zélés pour l’œuvre du Seigneur ! Ce régime de faveur, à l’égard de Jérémie, révélait en fait une certaine affection, de la part de son libérateur.

Y-a-t-il une différence de comportement constatable, entre les faits relatés par ce texte, et la conduite des hommes d’aujourd’hui ? En fait, les enfants de Dieu cherchent toujours à se conformer à l’exemple de leur Sauveur, alors que les enfants de Satan cherchent sans cesse à suivre leur maître redoutable...
