Il y a pour l'argent... Ce verset commence dans le texte original par un Car, qui repose sur l'idée sous-entendue à la base de tout ce chapitre : La sagesse est rare ! Elle est rare, car, à force de peine, on trouve dans le sol or, argent, diamants. Mais (verset 12) il n'en est pas ainsi de la sagesse.

Au sujet des richesses du monde. (Job 28:1-11)
La sagesse a une valeur inestimable. (Job 28:12-19)
La sagesse est un don de Dieu. (Job 28:20-28)

Job soutient dans ce texte, que la dispensation de la Providence a été opérée jusqu'à présent, avec une grande Sagesse. Pour appuyer ses propos, il a rappelé la somme de connaissances et de richesses acquises par l'homme. S'il lui a été possible de découvrir les profondeurs de la terre, par contre, il est incapable de discerner les perfections célestes.

Quand on considère le travail du mineur : quel courage ! Mais de la piété et de la sagesse, qu'en est-il ? Que la poursuite des richesses vulnérables puisse nous remplir de honte, et pousser plutôt notre zèle à la recherche des vraies valeurs ! Qu'il est bien plus profitable de posséder la sagesse, plutôt que l'or ! C'est plus facile et surtout moins risqué ! L'or est convoité, la grâce, elle, est négligée. Bien que la quête effrénée des trésors terrestres, recherche misérable et vaine, excite les passions des hommes et constitue une véritable industrie, elle devrait plutôt conduire vers une autre prospection, celle des choses célestes, les seules vraies richesses !
