Nous avons dans ce texte, les limites du pays que Josué a conquis. La liste des rois frappés par Israël, nous est ici donnée : trente et un, en tout. Cela nous révèle bien à quel point le pays de Canaan était prospère et relativement peuplé.

C'était en fait, la terre que Dieu avait choisie pour Israël ; de nos jours, c'est un des endroits les plus stériles et les moins rentables du monde*. Telles sont les malédictions que ce pays connut, depuis que ses occupants rejetèrent Christ et l'évangile, ce que d'ailleurs, Moïse avait prédit, \\#De 29:23\\. La vengeance que le Dieu de Justice infligea à tous ces rois et à leurs sujets, à cause de leur méchanceté, devrait nous faire frémir et haïr le péché. Le fait que la terre féconde fut octroyée au « peuple élu », devrait remplir nos cœurs d'espérance et de confiance quant à la véracité des promesses divines, avec toute l'humilité que cet état d'esprit requiert.
