World English Bible The lords of the Philistines gathered them together to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god, and to rejoice; for they said, "Our god has delivered Samson our enemy into our hand."

Un grand sacrifice : à la fête de Dagon qui suivit la prise de Samson ; il n'est pas dit que ce fût à l'occasion de cette capture que la fête eût lieu.

Dagon. Ce nom, qui signifie poisson, désigne une divinité mi-homme, mi-poisson, qui était adorée chez les Philistins, ainsi que dans plusieurs villes phéniciennes. On trouve des traces d'un culte analogue dans les monuments assyriens et babyloniens.
