Juges 2.1

Un envoyé de l'Eternel monta de Guilgal à Bokim et dit : « Je vous ai fait sortir d'Egypte et je vous ai amenés dans le pays que j'avais juré à vos ancêtres de vous donner. J'ai dit : ‘Jamais je ne romprai mon alliance avec vous.

L'ange de l'Éternel réprimande le peuple. (Juges 2:1-5)
La méchanceté de la nouvelle génération d'Israël, après la mort de Josué. (Juges 2:6-23)

Il s'agit du « Grand Ange » de l'alliance, la Parole, le Fils de Dieu ; Il a toujours parlé avec l'autorité divine, comme le faisait l’Éternel ; maintenant, Il reproche au peuple d'Israël sa désobéissance. Dieu rappelle tout ce qu'Il a accompli pour Israël, et tout ce qu'Il lui a promis.

Ceux qui rejettent toute communion avec Dieu et qui pratiquent régulièrement les œuvres des ténèbres, ne se rendent pas compte du danger qu'ils encourent, et n'auront rien à répondre au jour où Dieu leur demandera des comptes. Ils doivent en fait, s'attendre à souffrir plus ou moins tard de leur folie.

Ceux-là se leurrent, qui comptent tirer quelque avantage de leur fréquentation avec les ennemis de Dieu. Ce Dernier reproche aux hommes, les péchés qu'ils ont pu commettre. Les épines et les pièges parsèment le chemin de ceux qui ne marchent pas selon les commandements divins.

Le peuple pleura, se rendant compte de sa folie et de son ingratitude. À cause de sa conduite, il trembla en entendant la Parole de l'Éternel. Il est vraiment étonnant de voir les pécheurs lisant la Bible, tout en restant avec un cœur insensible. Ils sont incapables de tourner leurs regards vers Dieu et de se convertir, étant aveuglés et assourdis par le tumulte des péchés qu'ils commettent avec les incrédules. Mais dans leur iniquité et leur folie, ils perdent leur temps à accomplir des tâches inutiles, ne faisant que gémir. Par nature, l'adoration divine n'est que joie, louange et remerciements ; notre péché peut parfois nous attrister de manière positive, en nous conduisant à la repentance. Il est réjouissant de voir parfois les hommes pleurer à cause de leurs péchés ; mais en fin de compte, nos larmes, nos prières et même nos tentatives de correction personnelles, ne pourront jamais expier nos péchés.
