Chapitre 15. Retraite dans les quartiers de Tyr et Sidon

1 à 20 Traditions et ordonnaces cérémonielles.

Comparer Marc 7.1-23. Le mot alors indique le temps où Jésus se trouvait dans le pays de Génézareth. (Matthieu 14.34)

Ces scribes et ces pharisiens (comparez Matthieu 23.2 et suivants ; Matthieu 3.7) étaient sans doute une députation de la synagogue ou même du sanhédrin de Jérusalem, venue pour adresser à Jésus des questions insidieuses et chercher quelque sujet d'accusation. (verset 2)

Les séjours que le Sauveur avait faits à Jérusalem, (Jean 2 ; Jean 3 ; Jean 5) pouvaient avoir donné lieu à une pareille démarche. Ce récit conservé par Matthieu et Marc (Marc 7.1 et suivants) montre l'inimitié croissante des adversaires de Jésus.

Tout ce qui est ajouté à la loi de Dieu, n’est que mépris de Sa Sagesse, comme s'Il avait exclu un élément qui nous serait nécessaire et que l’homme pourrait fournir ; quelles que soient les manières utilisées, ces ajouts amènent toujours les hommes à désobéir à Dieu.

Combien devons-nous être reconnaissants pour l’existence de l’Écriture, la Parole de Dieu ! Ne pensons jamais que l’enseignement de la Bible puisse être amélioré par un additif quelconque, d’origine humaine, qu’il s’agisse de doctrine ou de conduite pratique.

Notre Seigneur béni rappela aux pharisiens leurs diverses traditions : elles ne provenaient que de leur invention ; Jésus mentionna un exemple dans lequel il était très clair que leurs coutumes allaient à l’encontre du cinquième commandement ; quand des parents, dans le besoin, demandaient une assistance aux pharisiens, ces derniers prétextaient avoir consacré au temple toute leur épargne, et que par conséquent, ils étaient dans l’incapacité de les aider : ils ne devaient rien attendre d'eux. Cette attitude reniait le commandement de Dieu...

La ruine des hypocrites est très bien résumée dans ce texte : « c'est en vain qu'ils m'honorent ». Ils ne peuvent ni plaire à Dieu, ni jouir eux-mêmes de leurs profits ; ils placent leur confiance dans la vanité : cette dernière sera alors leur seule rétribution ...

      5 The Pharisees and the scribes asked him, "Why don't your disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with unwashed hands?"
      6 He answered them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, 'This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
      7 But in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.'
      8 "For you set aside the commandment of God, and hold tightly to the tradition of men--the washing of pitchers and cups, and you do many other such things."
      9 He said to them, "Full well do you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition.
      10 For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother;' and, 'He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.'
      11 But you say, 'If a man tells his father or his mother, "Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban , that is to say, given to God";'
      12 then you no longer allow him to do anything for his father or his mother,
      13 making void the word of God by your tradition, which you have handed down. You do many things like this."
      14 He called all the multitude to himself, and said to them, "Hear me, all of you, and understand.
      15 There is nothing from outside of the man, that going into him can defile him; but the things which proceed out of the man are those that defile the man.
      16 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!"
      17 When he had entered into a house away from the multitude, his disciples asked him about the parable.
      18 He said to them, "Are you thus without understanding also? Don't you perceive that whatever goes into the man from outside can't defile him,
      19 because it doesn't go into his heart, but into his stomach, then into the latrine, thus purifying all foods ?"
      20 He said, "That which proceeds out of the man, that defiles the man.
      21 For from within, out of the hearts of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, sexual sins, murders, thefts,
      22 covetings, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, and foolishness.
      23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man."

      Luc 5

      17 It happened on one of those days, that he was teaching; and there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every village of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. The power of the Lord was with him to heal them.
      21 The scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, "Who is this that speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?"
      30 Their scribes and the Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, "Why do you eat and drink with the tax collectors and sinners?"

      Actes 23

      9 A great clamor arose, and some of the scribes of the Pharisees part stood up, and contended, saying, "We find no evil in this man. But if a spirit or angel has spoken to him, let's not fight against God!"
