Il y a une tristesse profonde dans ces paroles ! La nécessité des scandales est fondée sur la corruption qui règne dans le monde, et aussi sur la sagesse de Dieu, qui, pour ses enfants, tire le bien du mal.

Mais ni l'une ni l'autre de ces causes n'atténue la responsabilité de l'homme par qui le scandale arrive.

Quand on considère, d’une part, la ruse et la malice de Satan, et d’autre part, la faiblesse et la dépravation de l’homme, les scandales ne peuvent qu’être inévitables. Dieu, dans Sa Sainteté et Sa Sagesse, en autorise l’existence, afin que ceux qui sont sincères et droits dans leur conduite, puissent être distingués de ceux qui ne le sont pas.

Puisqu'il nous est dit dans l’Écriture, qu'il y aura des séducteurs, des tentateurs, des persécuteurs, et de mauvais exemples, soyons sur nos gardes ! Nous devons, dans la limite de la légalité, renoncer à tout ce que pourrait nous entraîner dans la voie du péché. Les occasions qui mènent à l’iniquité doivent être évitées. Si nous vivons selon « la chair », nous mourrons. Si, par le biais de l'Esprit, nous mortifions les actions du corps, nous vivrons !

Christ est venu dans le monde pour sauver les âmes ; Il agira sévèrement à l’encontre de ceux qui entravent le progrès que pourraient faire ceux qui « tournent leur visage » vers les cieux. Détournerions-nous notre attention de ceux que le Fils de Dieu est venu chercher et sauver ? Un père prend soin de tous ses enfants, de plus, il éprouve une tendresse particulière pour les plus petits...
