41 à 46 La question de Jésus : de qui le Christ est-il le fils ?

Comparer Marc 12.35-37 ; Luc 20.41-44.

- Les pharisiens s'étaient assemblés quand le légiste posa à Jésus la question précédente (versets 34,35) Le Sauveur en profite pour adresser à son tour à ses adversaires une question dont le but n'était point seulement de leur montrer leur ignorance, de les embarrasser et de les forcer au silence, (verset 46) mais de réveiller en eux, si possible, une idée plus élevée de celui qu'ils attendaient comme Messie. C'était là précisément le point essentiel sur lequel portaient toutes leurs attaques contre lui.

Quelle est votre opinion sur le Messie que vous attendez ? De qui doit-il être le descendant, selon les prophéties ?

Les pharisiens et le docteur de la loi répondent sans hésiter, conformément aux prophéties qu'ils connaissaient bien. Et tel est aussi l'enseignement du Nouveau Testament. (Matthieu 1.1 ; Luc 1.32,69 ; 3.31 ; Romains 1.3 ; 2Timothée 2.8)
