Matthieu 26.65

Déchirer ses vêtements était chez les Juifs un signe de tristesse profonde ou de vive indignation. (2Rois 18.37 ; 19.1) Il est évident que, chez Caïphe, ces sentiments étaient hypocritement simulés ou du moins dominés par la haine. (Jean 11.49 et suivants)

Caïphe affirme que Jésus, en se déclarant le Messie, le Fils de Dieu, et en prétendant avoir part à la puissance divine, (verset 64) s'attribue une gloire qui n'appartient qu'à Dieu, et prononce un blasphème. (Comparer Jean 10.33) Les mots Que vous en semble ? étaient la question solennelle posée par le président à tout le conseil, pour que celui-ci fit connaître son vote. Or ce vote, d'après Lévitique 24.16, ne pouvait être qu'une condamnation à mort. Et c'est ce qui eut lieu. (verset 66)

D'où il faut conclure que si Jésus n'avait pas été ce qu'il déclarait être, la sentence prononcée contre lui conforme à la loi de Moïse serait parfaitement juste. Ceux qui nient la divinité de Jésus-Christ ont-ils réfléchi à cette conséquence de leur négation ?
