1 à 88 Offrandes des chefs des tribus pour le Tabernacle.

Il y avait un mois au moins que ces offrandes des chefs de tribus avaient commencé à être présentées (Exode 40.17 ; Nombres 1.1). Il est assez naturel de penser que c'est la mention de la première offrande, l'offrande collective des bœufs et des chars destinée au transport du Tabernacle, qui motive la position assignée à ce morceau immédiatement avant le récit du départ. Les allusions à des faits qui n'ont eu lieu qu'après l'offrande des chars (versets 2, 7, 8 et 9) supposant la répartition des fonctions des Lévites sont des annotations historiques intercalées après coup dans le récit du fait principal, celui des offrandes.

1 à 9 L'offrande collective des princes.

Le jour où... : le premier jour du premier mois (Exode 40.17). La consécration des sacrificateurs, qui suivit immédiatement l'érection du Tabernacle (Exode 40.9, etc., notes), est racontée au chapitre 8 du Lévitique. Ce jour fut un jour de joie pour tout Israël ; les principaux témoignèrent par leurs offrandes de la part qu'ils prenaient à l'allégresse générale.

Préposés au dénombrement. Cette remarque est ajoutée ici afin de constater l'identité de ces personnages avec ceux dont il a été parlé 1.5-15, qui n'étaient pas rangés dans le même ordre.

Les offrandes des princes d'Israël, pour le service du tabernacle, ne furent faites que lorsque ce dernier fut totalement achevé. Les offrandes volontaires font partie des observances de la religion. Plus il y a de volontaires dans le service religieux, plus ils trouvent d'opportunités pour servir Dieu. À peine le tabernacle était-il terminé que déjà des dons étaient faits, pour pouvoir le transporter. Dès que nous sommes établis sur cette terre, nous devons nous préparer spirituellement à la quitter, en vue du grand départ vers l'au-delà !
