12 et 13 Cette belle et douce image du verset 11 semble attendrir le cœur de l'Eternel ; le ton de la menace fait place à celui de l'encouragement. Les images nouvelles paraissent aussi inspirées par celles du verset 11. Osée poursuit fréquemment une image sans continuer exactement la même idée.

L'Eternel indique le seuil moyen de prévenir le châtiment annoncé.

Faites vos semailles... moissonnez... Au sens littéral, sans doute, tout en appliquant ces expressions en général à tous les travaux de la vie ordinaire. On sème selon la justice, quand on ne se permet ni de semer du grain dérobé, ni d'user de fraude d'aucune sorte ; on moissonne selon la bonté, quand les pauvres ont leur part de la moisson.

Défrichez... (Jérémie 4.3). Ici, le sens devient de plus en plus figuré.

Vos jachères : vos champs négligés, c'est-à-dire votre cœur mauvais.

Il est temps de chercher l'Eternel... C'est l'acte intérieur qu'indiquait l'image : défricher les jachères.

Pleuvoir sur vous la justice... c'est-à-dire le pardon et le renouvellement. Quand le peuple sèmera en justice, Dieu lui répondra en répandant sur lui la justice d'en haut. Comparez Esaïe 45.8.
