En plein jour, vous trébucherez, les prophètes eux-mêmes trébucheront de nuit en votre compagnie, et je réduirai au silence Israël, votre mère.

Tu trébucheras de jour, le prophète avec toi trébuchera de nuit et je détruirai ta mère.

Tu trébucheras... Ici, Dieu parle de nouveau à chaque Israélite.

Le jour désigne les circonstances plus faciles dans lesquelles chaque Israélite doit pouvoir par lui-même trouver son chemin ; et la nuit, les situations plus difficiles dans lesquelles il aurait besoin d'une connaissance supérieure, telle que celle du prophète.

Dans le premier cas, il est tellement aveugle qu'il manque la voie en pleine lumière ; dans le second, le prophète même, qu'il va consulter, se trompe et l'égare. Car ce ne sont plus que des faux prophètes auxquels ils ont recours. Ainsi la nation tout entière (ta mère) court à sa ruine.

      Esaïe 9
