Le prophète, en contemplant le spectacle que lui offre la révélation divine, est sous l'empire d'une profonde émotion. Son style est brisé ; les phrases, dans l'hébreu, ne sont pas complètement formées ; elles font l'effet d'exclamations.

A ta bouche... C'est au prophète que cet ordre s'adresse ; comme la sentinelle, il doit annoncer le malheur qui s'approche.

Comme l'aigle plane sur sa proie avant de fondre sur elle, ainsi le prophète voit le jugement planer sur la maison de l'Eternel. On pourrait voir dans cette dernière expression une simple paraphrase du nom de Béthel ; mais il est plus naturel de l'appliquer au peuple ou au pays tout entier, qui était destiné à être l'habitation de Jéhova ; comparez 9.15.

Étant sous l'oppression, le peuple d'Israël aurait bien souhaité recevoir la protection divine, malgré l'indifférence du Très-Haut. À quoi cela peut-il servir de se tenir devant Dieu, si l'on ne peut Lui dire : « mon Dieu, je T'aime, je sais que Tu es près de moi, je suis à Ton service et je veux que rien ne me m'éloigne de Toi » ?
