Proverbes 11.17

The merciful man does good to his own soul, but he who is cruel troubles his own flesh.

A lui-même, littéralement : à son âme.

L'homme officieux se fait aimer ; on lui rend volontiers la pareille.

Sa propre chair, littéralement : sa chair, non pas sa famille, mais lui-même personnellement. L'homme se compose d'âme et de chair. Le mot de chair est employé dans le second membre du verset parce que la cruauté attire parfois des représailles, humaines ou divines, d'une nature matérielle.

      Job 20

      14 while they themselves also, with supplication on your behalf, yearn for you by reason of the exceeding grace of God in you.
