La loi punissait de mort ceux qui se rendent coupables d'un tel crime (Exode 21.17 ; Lévitique 20.9 ; Deutéronome 27.16). Ici, comme dans 13.9, leur sont dénoncés les châtiments divins. La lampe, ce n'est pas seulement ce qui fait la vie belle et digne d'être vécue, c'est l'existence elle-même, la vie que Dieu communique à ses créatures.
