Psaumes 130.4

כִּֽי־עִמְּךָ֥ הַסְּלִיחָ֑ה לְ֝מַ֗עַן תִּוָּרֵֽא׃
Mais c’est toi qui disposes du pardon, c’est pourquoi tu dois être respecté.
Mais le pardon se trouve auprès de toi afin qu’on te révère.

Car le pardon... Les traductions remplacent ce car par un mais, qui, au premier abord, se comprend plus facilement. Cependant, la traduction littérale donne à ce verset et au psaume entier une portée plus grande. Qui subsistera ? demande le psalmiste, car le pardon aurait dû être suivi de la crainte de pécher de nouveau, et cela n'a pas été le cas. Continuer à ne pas craindre de pécher, après avoir passé par le pardon, c'est le chemin de la perdition. C'est avec cette pensée angoissante que se termine la première partie du psaume. La seconde partie nous fait assister à la lutte et au triomphe de la foi du psalmiste, qui attend d'une intervention directe de l'Eternel lui-même une rédemption plus complète encore que ce pardon dont Israël use et abuse à sa propre condamnation.
