Regarde à ton alliance : Le seul fondement solide sur lequel puissent s'appuyer nos prières est l'élection de Dieu (Calvin).

Les lieux retirés, littéralement : les lieux ténébreux. Il s'agit sans doute des retraites des montagnes, où se sauvaient les fidèles adorateurs de l'Eternel, mais où parfois les avaient devancés les assassins. Le deuxième livre des Maccabées parle d'Israélites qui s'en allaient aux cavernes voisines célébrer secrètement le jour du sabbat ; mais ayant été découverts, ils furent brûlés tous ensemble. (2Maccabées 6.11).
