31 à 35 : Le voile qui séparait le Lieu très saint du Lieu saint

Même étoffe et mêmes couleurs que pour la tenture magnifique qui formait à proprement parler la tente, la couverture la plus intérieure.

De lin retors. Nous omettons ici (en raison de l'épithète retors, qui est plus essentielle) et ailleurs le mot blanc, malgré l'exactitude étymologique de la note 25.4

Damassé de chérubins. Cet ordre n'était pas en contradiction avec le second commandement, s'il est vrai, comme nous l'avons admis, que les chérubins étaient des figures symboliques, et non des représentations d'êtres vivants réels.

Un voile, sorte de rideau, séparait le lieu Saint du lieu Très Saint. Il était suspendu entre des colonnes. Cette séparation empêchait les regards « indiscrets » de pénétrer librement dans l'endroit le plus saint du tabernacle. Les apôtres nous révèlent la signification de ce voile, Heb 9:8. La loi ne purifiait pas ceux qui exerçaient les cérémonies du tabernacle, elle ne pouvait pas non plus mener les hommes vers le paradis. Tant que le tabernacle subsistait, la voie vers le lieu Très Saint n'était pas libre de tout passage.

Le chemin vers la vie éternelle resta obscur, tant que l'évangile n'a pas apporté la Lumière ; tout cela a changé quand le voile s'est déchiré en deux, lors de la mort de Christ, Matthieu 27:51. Grâce au sang de Jésus, nous avons maintenant la pleine liberté d'entrer dans le lieu Très Saint, pour nous consacrer à l'adoration divine ; cela ne peut que nous amener à observer une attitude de sainte humilité.

Un autre voile était placé à la porte du tabernacle. C'était, pour ce dernier, la seule mesure de protection, vis-à-vis de l'extérieur. Dieu prend soin de Son église ici-bas : Il saura placer, s'Il le désire, un « voile » protecteur sur Son assemblée, aussi solide que des portes en bronze, tenues par des barres d'acier ! Que pouvons-nous penser d'une telle description de Christ et de Son église ? En discernons-nous toute Sa gloire et l'excellence de Sa personne ? Voyons-nous le merveilleux salut qu'Il nous offre, l'enseignement de la croix ? Notre piété nous incite-t-elle à méditer ces choses ? Est-ce que nous dirigeons plus volontiers nos cœurs vers Dieu, plutôt que vers les doctrines des hommes ?
