Il n'y aura pas sur elle de pluie. On pourrait rattacher cette menace au sens de la fête des Tabernacles : les peuples qui ne viendront pas rendre grâces seront punis par où ils auront péché : la pluie leur sera refusée pour l'année suivante. Mais peut-être ne s'agit-il pas de la pluie au sens propre, et le prophète veut-il représenter par ce refus de pluie une privation de bénédiction spirituelle dont Dieu frappera les peuples qui se montreront négligents dans l'accomplissement du devoir d'adorer et de remercier l'Eternel. Ils seront punis, mais non plus par les châtiments d'autrefois ; car, même en cas de punition, ce sera encore une époque de grâce.
