6 à 11 Bonheur et gloire de Jérusalem après la délivrance.

Il arrivera en ce jour-là. Cette description se rattache immédiatement au tableau de la délivrance, versets 3 à 5, en y ajoutant de nouveaux détails. Le prophète reprendra plus tard celui de la destruction des ennemis. On se demande naturellement comment le peuple peut se retirer par la vallée sans être poursuivi par l'ennemi. Le prophète semble dire qu'il se passera un miracle, de nature opposée à celui par lequel Josué put consommer la destruction des rois cananéens. Une obscurité mystérieuse régnera durant ce jour, au moyen de laquelle les restes d'Israël pourront échapper. On sait, que, dans les grands tremblements de terre, des ténèbres épaisses envahissent parfois des contrées entières.

L'éclat des astres se retirera, littéralement : Les clartés se contracteront. On a traduit aussi, mais en modifiant le texte : Il y aura du froid et de la glace.

Un jour unique. Ces mots sont expliqués par ce qui suit. Ce jour ne se composera pas, comme tous les autres, de douze heures de lumière et de douze heures de ténèbres. Ce sera un mélange d'obscurité et de lumière.

Connu de l'Eternel. C'est lui qui en aura fixé le moment, et son importance ne sera connue que de lui seul. Ce moment sera ce qu'a été le chaos pour la première création : c'est de son sein que surgiront une nature et une humanité nouvelles.

Au temps du soir. Le prophète ne dit pas : vers le soir ; il n'y aura pas de soir proprement dit, puisque le soir implique une lumière qui s'affaiblit graduellement. Mais il dit : au temps du soir, au moment où le soir arrive, quand il y a un soir.

La lumière sera. Au lien de la nuit complète qui s'étend d'ordinaire à cette heure-là, un jour éclatant se lèvera. Il y a allusion à Genèse 1.3 : Et la lumière fut. La lumière, voilà le signe qui annonce toujours un nouvel ordre de choses.
