Il paraît donc que, dès les temps apostoliques, toute l'assemblée s'associait à la prière publique en la confirmant par un amen (en vérité !) prononcé à haute voix ; bien plus, que tout membre du troupeau pouvait prendre la parole pour l'édification des autres, et que cela avait ordinairement lieu. (versets 26-31)

Mais l'apôtre prouve par là même l'inconvénient de "parler en langues" sans interprétation, puisque cette sainte communion de pensées et de prière était interrompue et troublée par le manque d'intelligence.

- Bénir et rendre grâces sont ici synonymes. La prière, dans ceux qui étaient remplis de l'Esprit, et par là même de joie, devait tout naturellement revêtir le caractère de la louange et de l'action de grâces.

- Pour celui qui est du commun peuple, il y a dans le grec : "Celui qui remplit la place du simple particulier," ou de l'homme sans culture, de l'homme du peuple, de l'ignorant (Actes 4.13, et ci-dessous, 1Corinthiens 14.23,24 ; 2Corinthiens 11.6), qui devait nécessairement former la plus grande partie de l'auditoire, et qui n'entendait pas ce qui était dit "en langues."
