1 Corinthiens 16.22

-Si quelqu'un n'aime pas le Seigneur Jésus Christ, qu'il soit anathème, Maranatha !

Anathème, signifie exécration, et était devenu une formule d'excommunication. (Romains 9.3 ; 1Corinthiens 12.3)

Quiconque n'aime pas le Seigneur Jésus n'appartient point à son Eglise, ne doit point y être toléré, puisqu'il s'exclut lui-même de sa communion, ici-bas et dans le ciel. Redoutable parole que Paul ajoute de sa propre main, et qu'il rend plus solennelle encore par cette déclaration : Maran atha.

"Le Seigneur vient," il vient exercer le jugement sur tous ceux qui n'auront pas voulu l'aimer, lui, l'amour souverain ! Paul cite ce mot en langue syriaque, d'où l'on peut présumer qu'il était une sorte de mot d'ordre par lequel les chrétiens de cette langue s'excitaient à la vigilance.
