Le chrétien n'est arrivé à croire en Dieu, comme en son Père, que par Jésus Christ.

La résurrection et la glorification de Christ sont, d'après versets 3-5, la condition de cette foi : parce que nous avons un Sauveur vivant auprès de Dieu, nous pouvons nous approcher de lui avec la confiance de la foi. (Ephésiens 3.12 ; Hébreux 4.14-16 ; 6.20)

Quelques-uns traduisent : "En sorte que votre foi est aussi votre espérance en Dieu." La traduction admise est plus naturelle ; elle rend mieux compte de la position des mots : en Dieu. C'est sur eux, et non sur l'espérance que porte l'accent.

La phrase ainsi traduite ne fait pas double emploi avec celle qui ouvre le verset : (grec) qui êtes par lui croyants en Dieu. Il y a gradation : parce qu'ils sont devenus tels, leur foi et leur espérance reposent sur Dieu. L'objet de la foi est le présent, celui de l'espérance l'avenir. L'une et l'autre sont vivantes (verset 3) en Dieu.
