Que leur espérance soit toute entière en Dieu lui-même. C’est lui qui pourvoit largement à tout ce qui nous est nécessaire. Il nous dispense généreusement toutes ses richesses afin que nous en jouissions.

Aux chrétiens qui ont des biens de ce siècle : désignation très significative ! Voir l'inverse à 1Timothée 6.19.

Quel contraste ! avoir pour objet de son espérance l'instabilité des richesses, ou Dieu qui nous donne richement toutes choses.

- Le texte reçu porte : "le Dieu vivant," belle épithète, mais trop peu documentée.

« Être riche » ici-bas est complètement différent que de l'être envers Dieu. Rien n'est plus incertain que les richesses de ce monde ! Ceux qui en possèdent, doivent savoir que c'est Dieu qui leur a permis d’en avoir, pour qu'ils puissent en jouir en toute libéralité ; beaucoup de personnes possèdent des biens, mais en profitent de mauvaise manière, n'ayant pas un cœur apte à les utiliser convenablement.

Qu'y a-t-il de meilleur que l'opportunité de pouvoir pratiquer le bien ? C'est la manifestation de la foi en Christ, par les fruits de l'amour, notre assurance de posséder la vie éternelle ; les hommes charnels et les impies qui nous environnent sont avides de tout gain, ne pouvant avoir aucune espérance, autre que celle des tourments célestes qui leur sont réservés.

Cette « doctrine », la vaine recherche des richesses, s'oppose en fait à la Vérité de l'Évangile, et à la véritable connaissance du Seigneur, sinon elle approuverait ce Dernier et consentirait à Le suivre.

Ceux qui se fient à la raison plutôt qu’à la foi courent le danger d'abandonner cette dernière. La Grâce inclut tout ce qui est bon, elle est un sérieux moyen de percevoir la Gloire divine ; là où Dieu accorde Sa Grâce, Il révèle Sa Gloire !
