J'ai péché. La couche d'endurcissement dont il avait si longtemps enveloppé son cœur est brisée. C'est à ce moment que s'applique la parole Psaumes 32.5.

Contre l'Eternel. Son double forfait à l'égard d'Urie lui apparaît maintenant sous son vrai jour, comme crime non plus seulement contre l'homme, mais contre l'Eternel qui l'avait comblé de bienfaits. C'est dans cette disposition que David a composé le Psaume 51 et prononcé ces mots : J'ai péché contre toi, contre toi proprement.
