Nous suivons en quelque sorte pas à pas David dans sa fuite. La précision de ces indications dénote une source très rapprochée des faits.

Siméi, Benjamite, parent de Saül, paraît, d'après 19.17, avoir joui d'une influence considérable dans sa tribu ; il croit le moment favorable pour se venger, au moins par des injures, de la chute de Saül et de sa famille, dont il attribue la cause à David. Il se tient sur le versant de la montagne (verset 13) au pied de laquelle passe David.

Les jurons lancés par Shimhi, à l'encontre de David, éprouvaient beaucoup plus ce dernier, que les flatteries précédentes de Tsiba ; en effet, le roi était ainsi amené à porter de faux jugements sur les autres, étant influencé par les rapports erronés qu'il avait précédemment reçus : les « sourires » du monde sont parfois plus dangereux que ses « froncements de sourcils » !

Plus d'une fois, David avait épargné la vie de Saul, alors que ce dernier ne cherchait qu'à le tuer. L'innocence est souvent sans défense, face à la méchanceté et au mensonge ; n'est-il pas étrange de se voir attaqué par ce envers quoi nous avons observé la plus grande prudence ? Il est bon que les hommes ne soient pas nos juges : le Seul vraiment habilité, est Celui dont le jugement est fait selon la Vérité.

Observez à quel point David était patient, malgré sa confrontation à ces divers abus. Cela nous rappelle en quelque sorte, l'attitude de Christ, lorsqu'Il a prié pour ceux qui L'ont injurié et crucifié !

Une humble personne saura transformer des reproches en réprimande corrective, sachant ainsi en tirer tout le bien possible, au lieu de s'en trouver irrité.

David discerna en tout cela, la main de Dieu, étant persuadé que ce Dernier le soulagerait de son affliction. Nous pouvons compter sur l'aide divine, non seulement dans la fatigue occasionnée par Son service, mais aussi dans la souffrance.
