Alors, l’être méchant apparaîtra, et le Seigneur Jésus le fera mourir par le souffle de sa bouche, il le détruira par la splendeur de sa venue.

C'est-à-dire "celui qui est sans loi," parce qu'il s'élève au-dessus de toutes les lois divines et humaines, (verset 4) prétendant lui-même être la loi souveraine de l'humanité

Ces mots le souffle de sa bouche (empruntés à Esaïe 11.4) signifient sa Parole rendue toute-puissante par son Esprit. (Souffle et esprit s'expriment par le même mot en hébreu et en grec.)

Mais l'action de cette Parole qui détruira l'inique, coïncide avec le glorieux retour de Christ pour le jugement du monde ; et il suffira de son avènement (Grec : "l'apparition de sa présence") pour anéantir toute la puissance de l'adversaire. C'est là la consolation de l'Eglise !
