Plus nous connaitrons en profondeur la doctrine de Christ, telle qu’elle nous a été enseignée par les apôtres, plus nous Lui serons attachés étroitement.

Quand nous ne connaissons qu'en partie les détresses que peuvent connaître certains croyants, nous pouvons être tentés de douter de la cause exacte pour laquelle ils souffrent. Un simulacre de piété ou une profession de foi chrétienne sans réelle ferveur, sont souvent admis, alors que le fait de professer ouvertement la Vérité qui se trouve en Jésus, et une recherche attentive à pratiquer les devoirs inhérents à la piété, attirent le mépris et l'inimitié de ce monde.

De même que les hommes pieux, par la Grâce divine, gravissent les pas de la sanctification, les hommes mauvais, de leur côté, à cause de l'habileté de Satan, et par leurs propres corruptions, connaissent une déchéance sans fin. Le chemin du péché est ainsi ; ceux qui l'empruntent courent inexorablement à leur ruine, ils trompent leur entourage mais sont trompés eux-mêmes, à leurs dépens.

L'histoire de l'église nous montre, de manière impressionnante, que l'apôtre Paul évoquait déjà ce sujet à son époque, en étant inspiré par le Saint-Esprit.
