Ici la pensée : Je connais tes œuvres, n'a rien de menaçant, elle prépare une approbation. En effet, le Seigneur a mis (grec donné) devant cette Eglise une porte ouverte, c'est-à-dire, dans le sens indiqué à verset 7, l'occasion de répandre l'Evangile. (1Corinthiens 16.9 ; 2Corinthiens 2.12 ; Colossiens 4.3)

Pourquoi ? Parce que cette Eglise, avec peu de force (grec une petite force), peu nombreuse, limitée dans ses moyens, était restée fidèle, avait gardé la parole du Seigneur et confessé son nom dans l'épreuve. (Comparer Apocalypse 2.13)
