But now it has been revealed to his saints,27 to whom God was pleased to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory;28 whom we proclaim, admonishing every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus;29 for which I also labor, striving according to his working, which works in me mightily. -

24 Maintenant, je me réjouis dans les souffrances pour vous, et j'accomplis dans ma chair ce qui reste encore à souffrir des afflictions du Christ pour son corps qui est l'assemblée,25 de laquelle moi je suis devenu serviteur selon l'administration de Dieu qui m'a été donnée envers vous, pour compléter la parole de Dieu,26 savoir le mystère qui avait été caché dès les siècles et dès les générations, mais qui a été maintenant manifesté à ses saints,27 auxquels Dieu a voulu donner à connaître quelles sont les richesses de la gloire de ce mystère parmi les nations, c'est-à-dire Christ en vous l'espérance de la gloire,28 lequel nous annonçons, exhortant tout homme et enseignant tout homme en toute sagesse, afin que nous présentions tout homme parfait en Christ :29 à quoi aussi je travaille, combattant selon son opération qui opère en moi avec puissance. -

Ce royaume, qui est la lumière, est en opposition directe avec "la puissance des ténèbres." Les chrétiens vraiment régénérés sont transportés dans ce royaume au Fils de Dieu par leur régénération même ; ce règne est dès ici-bas au dedans d'eux, (Luc 17.21) et ils le posséderont tout entier dans la gloire. Jusque-là, ils ont toujours à combattre contre la puissance des ténèbres, aussi longtemps qu'ils habitent ce monde qui en est le théâtre.
- Le Fils de son amour est une expression qui ne se trouve qu'ici dans les écrits du Nouveau Testament. Ce terme revient à celui de "Fils unique" dans saint Jean. (Jean 1.18) Christ est Fils de l'amour du Père, en tant qu'il est engendré de son essence même et qu'il est l'objet de sa dilection ineffable et éternelle. Il fut encore, comme tel, la manifestation de l'amour de Dieu dans ce monde, d'un amour qui le porta à se donner lui-même pour la rédemption des pécheurs. Paul indique évidemment cette liaison d'idées au verset suivant.
- Telle est l'interprétation d'Augustin reprise par Olshausen. La plupart des commentateurs anciens et modernes, se fondant sur le passage parallèle Ephésiens 1.6, où Paul écrit simplement "son bien-aimé," considèrent cette expression Fils de son amour comme synonyme de "Fils bien-aimé ;" celui qui est l'objet par excellence de l'amour divin. Quoi qu'il en soit, ce mot profond signifie aussi que ceux qui ont part au royaume du Fils sont avec lui les objets de l'amour du Père.
