11.2 à 12.3 La révélation proprement dite.

Cette prédiction reprend, pour la développer, la vision du bélier et du bouc et l'explication qui en avait été donnée à Daniel (8.19-25). Elle esquisse d'abord en quelques traits l'histoire de la monarchie perse et de la monarchie grecque jusqu'au morcellement de l'empire d'Alexandre, puis elle décrit longuement les luttes entre deux des dynasties issues de cet empire, celles des Ptolémées et des Séleucides, qui se disputaient la possession de la Palestine. Elle raconte ensuite les entreprises d'Antiochus contre la religion et le culte des Juifs et annonce enfin, aprÚs ce temps de calamité, la délivrance finale du peuple de Dieu. L'ange, sans mentionner aucun nom propre, caractérise avec tant de précision et de si minutieux détails une série de rois, leurs relations et leurs guerres, que nous pouvons, l'histoire en mains, indiquer traits pour traits le sens de ce tableau.

2 Ă  4. Esquisse de l'histoire des monarchies perse et grecque.

L'auteur ne parle que de quatre rois de Perse : Cyrus (10.1), Cambyse, Darius et XerxĂšs. On ne peut nĂ©anmoins en conclure qu'il ne connaissait pas les successeurs de XerxĂšs jusqu'Ă  Darius III Codoman, que vainquit Alexandre. Seulement l'expĂ©dition de XerxĂšs est pour lui le fait capital dans l'histoire, parce qu'elle a eu pour contre-partie l'expĂ©dition d'Alexandre, qui a renversĂ© le royaume de Perse et fondĂ© la monarchie grecque. Le rĂšgne de XerxĂšs marque donc en mĂȘme temps l'apogĂ©e de la puissance perse, commencement de son dĂ©clin. AprĂšs le choc de ce royaume avec la GrĂšce, Ă  Salamine, le centre de l'histoire se dĂ©place et se transporte dans la troisiĂšme monarchie.

Il soulĂšvera tout. Ce mot tout se rapporte Ă  la mention prĂ©cĂ©dente des richesses de ce roi et de la force acquise par leur moyen ; il mettra tout cela en Ɠuvre contre le royaume de GrĂšce.

Le royaume de Javan est appelé un royaume par anticipation ; car ce n'est que plus tard que les divers Etats dont il se composait à ce moment furent réunis pour former un seul royaume sous le gouvernement du roi de Macédoine.
