World English Bible As for both these kings, their hearts shall be to do mischief, and they shall speak lies at one table: but it shall not prosper; for yet the end shall be at the time appointed.

Les deux rois ne sont pas les deux frères, mais Philométor et Antiochus, lesquels, alliés ostensiblement contre Physcon, chercheront dans leur cœur à se tromper l'un l'autre. Ces mots : Assis à la même table, ils se diront des mensonges, font allusion à un fait qui ne nous est pas connu. Les mensonges consistaient sans doute dans des témoignages d'affection et de confiance qui n'étaient sincères ni d'un côté ni de l'autre.

Mais cela ne réussira pas. Aucun des deux ne réussira à anéantir l'autre, et la raison de leur insuccès est indiquée dans les mots suivants : Car la fin viendra au temps marqué : la mort d'Antiochus.

Ce qui ne réussira pas, sera leur entreprise contre Physcon, qui conserva Alexandrie et la couronne d'Egypte.
