D'une part, les armes de Dieu (Grec : panoplia, l'armure entière), de l'autre, les artifices du diable, c'est-à-dire ses tentations pleines de ruse, (comparez Ephésiens 4.14, où se trouve le même mot) voilà le contraste que l'apôtre va développer : l'ennemi ; (Ephésiens 6.12) la défense. (Ephésiens 6.13-17)

La simple indication de cette lutte explique pourquoi Paul, dès le début, (Ephésiens 6.10) engage ses frères à chercher leur force, non pas en eux-mêmes, mais uniquement dans le Seigneur et dans la force de sa puissance. Ces derniers mots forment un énergique pléonasme qui donne plus de relief à la pensée.
