World English Bible Therefore it will happen that, when the Lord has performed his whole work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the willful proud heart of the king of Assyria, and the insolence of his haughty looks.

12 à 19 Semblable à l'outil qui se révolterait contre celui qui le manie, l'Assyrien se glorifie de n'avoir eu recours qu'à sa propre force ; Dieu va châtier son insolence.

Quand le Seigneur aura accompli... Dieu ne brisera l'instrument qu'après s'en être servi. Sa sévérité à l'égard du bourreau n'adoucira pas le sort des coupables.

Je visiterai. (Remarquez comment le discours passe brusquement de la troisième à la première personne.) Jusque là, Dieu l'a laissé, faire ; il intervient dès que la limite des châtiments décrétés contre Israël est atteinte.

Le fruit du cœur hautain... : sa conduite insolente et cruelle envers Israël (36.1 et suivants).

      33 For his burning place has long been ready. Yes, for the king it is prepared. He has made its pyre deep and large with fire and much wood. Yahweh's breath, like a stream of sulfur, kindles it.
