En réponse à l'action de grâces versets 1 et 2, le prophète promet à Israël de nouvelles bénédictions.

Des eaux : image des grâces du salut dont Dieu leur ouvrira la source inépuisable (Apocalypse 7.17). Cette image est empruntée aux faits typiques de la délivrance d'Egypte. Après avoir passé la mer, les Israélites arrivèrent aux douze sources d'Elim (Exode 15.27) ; plus tard ils burent, au désert, de l'eau miraculeuse (Exode 17.6 et ailleurs).

Ces paroles d'Esaïe jouaient un rôle dans l'un des rites de la fête des Tabernacles, destinée tout entière à célébrer les bienfaits de Dieu au désert. On allait en procession puiser de l'eau à la source de Siloé (8.6, note) ; on l'apportait au temple, et le prêtre, en la recevant, prononçait les paroles du verset 3.
