12 à 15 Contraste inouï entre son orgueil sans bornes et sa chute ignominieuse.

Astre brillant, fils de l'aurore : l'étoile du matin, Vénus, qui paraît avant le lever dit soleil et semble naître de l'aurore. Ces mots sont une désignation symbolique du roi de Babel. Comparez Nombres 24.17. Plusieurs Pères de l'Eglise ont cru, à tort, d'après Luc 10.18, que cet astre tombé du ciel était Satan ; c'est là l'origine du nom de Lucifer (porte-lumière) que l'on donne quelquefois au diable.
