Dieu s'exprime ici avec tendresse : « ne crains rien, car je suis avec toi ». Il s'agit non seulement d'un encouragement, mais aussi d'une promesse de Sa présence : « es-tu faible ? Je te donnerai de la force. Désires-tu être épaulé par un Ami ? Je t'aiderai, quand tu seras dans le besoin. Es-tu sur le point de tomber ? Je te soutiendrai de Ma main droite, Celle de la Justice, Celle qui, à la fois, récompense ou punit ».

Certains s'acharnent contre les enfants de Dieu, ne recherchant que leur ruine. En de tels cas, ces derniers ne doivent pas vouloir se venger, mais savoir attendre « l'heure » que Dieu a prévue.

« Ne crains-pas, vermisseau de Jacob », (verset Esaïe 41:14*) ; le peuple d'Israël était alors peu représentatif, bien faible, dédaigné et méprisé par tous. Les véritables enfants de Dieu sont comme ces « vermisseaux », animés d'humbles pensées, constatant le mépris que leur témoignent leurs ennemis ; par cette image, on ne doit pas les assimiler à ces derniers, qui ne sont que des « vipères », de la famille du serpent !

La Parole de Dieu, dans son ensemble, vise à abaisser l'orgueil de l'homme, elle tend à diminuer ce dernier à ses propres yeux.

L'Éternel aidera Son peuple, Il est son Rédempteur ! Il incitera Jacob à devenir « l'instrument zélé », qui témoignera de l'existence de Sa Personne. Dieu lui donnera les capacités d'accomplir cette tâche, avec un esprit nouveau, actif. Tout cela sera manifesté par l'accomplissement du triomphe de l'évangile de Christ, avec tous Ses fidèles serviteurs, luttant contre la puissance des ténèbres.

Dieu a accordé tout Son soutien aux enfants d'Israël, Il a répondu à toutes leurs prières. Notre cheminement vers le ciel passe par le désert de ce monde. L'âme de l'homme est en perpétuelle recherche de satisfaction : en fait elle se lasse de ne rien trouver de valable ici-bas, rien qui ne puisse vraiment la contenter. Il existe pourtant une source sûre, capable de « restaurer » cette âme : « celui qui croit en moi, des fleuves d'eau vive couleront de son sein », nous annonce Christ, mentionnant l'Esprit, Jean 7:38,39.

Quand Dieu établit son église ici-bas, dans le « désert », parmi les « Gentils », il y eut un changement remarquable : les épines et les ronces se transformèrent en cèdres, en sapins, et en myrtes ! Toutes ces bénédictions s'adressent aux « pauvres en esprit », à tous ceux qui désirent humblement et ardemment la Lumière, le pardon et la sainteté célestes.

Dieu, dans Sa Grâce et par Son Esprit, transforme l'âme stérile : il la rend vivante et fructueuse, afin, qu'en retour, elle puisse Le glorifier !
